I've been successfully tutoring students for the ACT for over 13 years now, and I was so happy to find College Panda's books. I have many students who do not know the English grammar rules! Nielson Phu's book is perfect for assigning chapters to my students. My students truly benefit from the drills, exercises, and practice passages offered to test a category of grammar issue. Nielson's explanations are easily understood, and he provides a quantity of Right-Wrong examples so that my students "get it". I strongly recommend this book and Erica Meltzer's book for all those students who need more drills and explanations for the grammar and rhetorical skills questions tested on the ACT English section.
College Panda is an amazing resource. I have both of the books SAT and ACT.I found the ACT guide well laid out and easy to read. Not an overwhelming guide, you can just jump in and review chapters you may be weak on.Using College Pandas resources I got a 31 on ACT and 660 SAT reading and writing sections.Follow the blog you will be glad you did!
Wow! Test prep. for many high school students can be a daunting task. It is certainly for me. However, tremendous books like the one above (The College Panda) ease this process. When I signed up for the ACT, I knew I had work to do. I took a practice test and received and score of 26 on the English section. After I was persuaded by many friends to buy this book, I finally did. And I am really happy I did. The guide is perfect! It lists all the topics you EVER need to know. It is so concise yet so thorough at the same time. I was able to read and do all the exercises within 12 days. Upon completion, I did the 3 practice tests it provides (another great feature). I scored a perfect on the first one. I didn't believe this to be true so I compared the questions with official tests and all I can say is that i am astounded. Absolutely spot on! Thank you!
I found the writing in this book sophomoric. It might be engaging for some students but I don't think it's a great choice for tutors. Also there are grammar mistakes - the book needs a better editor. On the positive side, the author covers the right material, you just have to tolerate covering misplaced modifiers with sentences that talk about watching the end of the world. Funny for some, I guess.
We bought this ACT English book. After reading several chapters, my son thinks that this book is better than the books from some big name company. This book is more detail and deeper than others.By the way, there are a lot of useful information on College Psnda website.
Straightforward and simply put. Exercises are clear and to the point. No complaints from my son as he prepares for the ACT.
The book takes you through the types of questions on the English section, step by step, helping you understand what the questions are really asking and what to look out for along the way. It is not overwhelming like other review books, but still covers all the areas tested. Best of all, it includes Practice Tests with explanations for each answer.
Thorough, organized, simple, entertaining. Easy to read, understand and reference. Matter-of-fact style made it simple to follow. My junior received a 32 on her first ACT - yes, she's smart, but she said The College Panda tips were vital! I've bought several of the ACT & SAT The College Panda books - my children used them all.
