I am an American who lives in Mérida, Mexico and I bought this book as I am considering moving to Mexico City. I did not want a guide book, but rather a book that speaks more to cultural issues and what it is like to LIVE in Mexico City. This book delivered. Though it is not particularly deep nor philosophical, I found it to be a good starting point about the city and it's people. And for those like me, who want to read more, the author gives some references in the form of blogs, websites and books that he used as secondary materials. The book does tell much about a wealthy person's way of life. The first-person narratives are about the author's interactions with punk rockers, emos, fashionistas, partiers and the like. But it is written by a young man who is just starting out. It reflects his experiences and what he was interested in and had access to, not what you or I might want. The book drags a bit, here and there, and some chapters had me saying, "So what?" but overall I enjoyed it.It takes courage to live and work in another country and to write about it. And to me, that made this an inspiring book. All in all, I feel like I have a much better feel for Mexico City and my next trip there will be greatly enriched by Down and Delirious in Mexico City. I look forward seeing what else this author comes up with in the future.

Wow! This was a fantastic read. I never knew that there could be so much about a city. Some parts are definitely not for children to be read. Nevertheless, it really shows the hidden part of this great Mexico City

awesome book for CDMX background info. its a bit out of day 2007 / 2008 but... relevant background nonetheless. A fun read prior or during your trip. Mr. Hernandez has a great writing style, kept me coming back for more.

"Down and Delirious" is a lush and nuanced account of a multi-layered, fascinating, society. Hernandez writes with a voice that is unique and personable, not to mention, knowledgeable. He makes the material pop with his narrative style. The book is informative, but more importantly, enjoyable. I look forward to more from Daniel Hernandez.

A big fat book that is very comprehensive and up-to-date. Expensive like all school textbooks are. Required reading for our nursing school. A bit difficult to carry around in a book bag with all my other nursing books. Perhaps someday all higher education classes will be using digital versions of these books, which will be good for the environment and on students' backs!

I bought this book because it was recommended for learning dosages during nursing school. I got a lot of use out of it and it definitely helped me to learn medication dosages. The practice problems are the best workout for the brain and there are plenty of them in this book. Helped me pass the dosage test with a 100%!

Very helpful!. It teaches you how to do the problem step-by-step with different ways. The answer key also provides directions on how they came to that answer. I'm now a dosage calculating pro!

This was an OK book. The prose was pretty strong and I thought that the author did a fair job of presenting the backdrop and leading in to the revival of the primarch. That being said, there were a lot of details left out (perhaps intentionally by GW?).The bar for writing about the return of a loyalist primarch is astronomically high in a universe of novels that has known nothing but the Imperium struggling alone to fend off Chaos for ten millennia. Sadly, this book falls short of capturing the grandeur of such an event and I couldn't help but feel disappointed.It was good enough to make me look forward to the next installment, however. In order to legitimize the new primarch, I really think they will need to allow him to kill one of the Chaos primarchs.P.S. The primaris space marines are a cheap novelty and I hated their introduction.

I've read a ton of 40k books and like many was skeptical of the return of Guilliman and the addition of primaris marines. This book isn't good. It's not bad. It's also not really bolter porn as many of the 40k pulp fiction gets categorized as. Instead, it's more of a story to explain this new phase of the 40k world.Before starting the book I had many questions. Why primaris marines? Why create them to begin with? Isn't their creation heresy? How would Guilliman react to things like, the ecclesiarchy? What about the more unique chapters? Would they accept the highly vanilla primaris marines? etc.In the end, many of the questions were answered. But most of all, everything is very Guilliman. Anyone who has read a solid amount of the Horus Heresy and understands the different primarchs, their personalities, and how they generally do things will read this and feel right at home. It's definitely Guilliman and while that's not always good, or bad, it's in keeping with his personality.

I bought this book thinking it was vital to the current 40k lore.Nothing really happens.The writer spends far too much time interupting the story to describe excessice details.There are far too many perspectives the story moves between. Half of those perspectives were pointless by the end, most of the rest could have been done thru the eyes of one character who was present for anything of significance.I cannot recomnend this book and i doubt ill touch anything by this author again.

As this book is supposed to kick off a new era for the 40K universe, I'd hoped for it to be told on a bigger canvas. Unfortunately, the book was fairly limited in scope. Dark Imperium was entertainingg, but ultimately disappointing.

This book helped me catch up on the "current" state of the 40k galaxy. Well written and full of action and insight into space marines and the Imperium of Man.

IMO this is the tragic demise of War Hammer 40k. The new imperium is taken over by the ultramarines. There is some decent action in this book, but new imperium has become the realm of the ultramarines. The primaris marines are another bad idea. If GW wanted to strengthen the Space Marines they should have just buffed them up or given them groups of champions. Instead they created some uber marines with no personality. Someone is not doing their job at GW.

Four stars, good read if you like 40k and like the Ultramarines. Also gives you an idea of what the Emperor said to Guilliman on Terra.

A look into the future of the empire of mankind with the return of a Primarch. Great story and leaves you wanting more

I strongly recommend this book--it's advice is golden. Solid information about finding foodstuffs that are actually, you know...FOOD. The real stuff, not Frankenfoods. Grown or raised without genetic manipulation, chemicals, hormones, or medications; processed without questionable additives.The book is easy to read and cuts right to the chase with information about what to look for, what to look out for, and why; along with profiles of producers and processors, questions to ask of vendors, and a handful of helpful recipes. Even though the secondary heading on the cover reads "Aisle by Aisle, Morsel by Morsel," this is not one of those books that lists chapter after chapter of individual food items, producers, and/or vendors. Rather, the emphasis is on showing you how to easily and reliably source real foods for yourself, so you will always have the upper hand regarding the foods on your table. As a result, although copyrighted in 2005, it is still current and likely to remain so for some time--if anything, it is even more relevant now than when it was first published.

I thought I was a well informed consumer, but this book filled me with even more knowledge and understanding of all of the decieving food lingo out there. It busted some major foody myths as well. Such as, "free range" and "antibiotic and hormone free chicken"! What GMO's truly are and what their future ramifications might be. Fascinating and shocking revelations on Food additives, surplus crops, and a breakdown of confusing FDA babble on prepackage/prepared items. Do have a pen and paper beside you as well. The author provides you with internet locations of all the wonderful sustainable products she details. Products like grass fed beef, cheeses, heritage breeds, and organic produce can all be sourced from this book. The Real Food Revival explains how the food industry conglomerates took a wrong turn about 50 years ago and what some farmers are doing, and really what we as the consumers need to be aware of to reclaim what we deserve! Truly delicious and sustainable real food. As someone who believes that "You are what you eat" I am so grateful for the information I found in this book. I feel empowered when I shop now. I am much more well versed on the tricky jargon of food labels. I highly recommend this book!

I was so impressed that I bought 6 additional copies to give to close friends. It's not preachy or radical, just wholesome information. Like the other reviewers, I was appalled of what I learned about food and livestock production, it's impact on the environment thus our economy. I particularly laud the German, French, and Japanese governments for the food production actions they are taking to protect their people. The EU is also instituting humane legislation for chickens that has a deadline of 2012. I consider the current pertinent laws a blatant selling out of the American peoples' health by the USDA and FDA (not from content from this book, but other books and web searches) through lobbying antics by mega international food and chemical producers (most started here and then went international). I also quit Splenda (as a RN I had been one of its strongest proponents to diabetics and overweight persons) and went back to sugar (now organic) and will soon try stevia. I think each of us has a responsibility to make our consumer demands for healthy products well known by no longer purchasing unhealthy food products and notifying our local, state and federal government officials of the same, including the USDA and FDA. Unfortunately money or political votes seem to be the only way to get a message through nowadays. As an aside, Monsanto and the US government own a shared patent on technology that renders a plant's seeds sterile so they cannot be saved for future plantings. Sounds like a bad science fiction movie or a take off from Logan's Run (1976) or a more accurate Soylent Green (1973), but it's really true. In the latter movie, when Charlton Heston says the freeze dried company developed its technolgy for soylent green in Norfolk,VA, I about flipped out that 1973 Hollywood even knew my hometown existed.

Whether you're like me and you were outraged by "Fast Food Nation" and "The Future of Food," or like the author of this book, you simply miss the taste of your grandmother's home-grown peaches, this book is an excellent resource on how to eat Real Food. By Real Food, the writers mean food that is not genetically modified, grown with harmful chemicals, or overly processed. The writers take you through the grocery store, aisle by aisle, explaining exactly what terms such as "free-range," "antibiotic-free," "USDA inspected," and "natural" really mean. It is eye-opening as well as interesting. One thing I particularly like about this book is that the writers do not insist that you must be vegetarian or vegan. They include plenty of information on buying meat, dairy, and eggs that are healthy and sustainable.

I have read this book several times, and review it before any major photo expedition. Howard concentrates on the essential art of underwater photography in a concise, readable, meaningful way. He avoids extraneous technical information that so many other manuals use as filler, and focuses clearly on the essence of underwater photography. I gave my original copy away as a gift, and was overjoyed when I was able to pick up a used copy of this out of print paperback. I recommend this superb book to all underwater photographers, new and old.

Best Underwater Photo "how to" ever! Tells you how to "reverse engineer" great photos and explains the basic types of U/W photo's. Then explains in very practical terms how to create them. It's out of print and technically out of date but the principles he explains will never go out of style!

 For those of you who don’t already know “Pescatarian” is a type of Vegetarian. So quite a number of the recipes in this cookbook are geared for straight “veg, dairy, and grains” vegetarians. The Vegetarian Mains chapter features 13 such recipes while a few of the Breakfast chapter recipes are as well.On the celebrity side of things, Wendie Malick, who was born in 1950 and looks TERRIFIC in her late 60s, is a Pescatarian. So, there must be something to this healthy living lifestyle.This cookbook covers lacto-ovo-pescatarian recipes, meaning that they are vegetarian, some are vegan or easily adaptable, but some also include EGGS and DAIRY along with the Fish/Seafood component.Hallissey devotes the first Chapter to defining and outlining what a Pescatarian Diet, Pescatarian Lifestyle is. Not a DIET diet, but diet, as in the eating structure, like for any other kind of Vegetarian.I knew what Pescatarians were, so when I was offered a copy free by the publisher for an honest review, I was expecting a cookbook of mostly Fish centered recipes. That’s not exactly what Hallissey delivered. It is more truly a Pescatarian (as the title indicates, duh, yeah, April) cookbook. Secondarily, it’s supposed to be a healthy cookbook. But it also has quite a bit of content more geared for a Diet Cookbook. I would suggest that The Truly Healthy Pescatarian Diet Cookbook would be more accurate and truthful for what is delivered.I was seriously interested in the title of Chapter 3: Finding and Maintaining Your Naturally Healthy Weight. I hunkered down on my couch, having put the book and review completion aside until I had the time to devote to a thorough reading of the enticingly titled chapter. Only upon reading did I discover it was just another rehashing of BMI and BMRs to determine desired weight. Secondarily, in her admonishing her readers and dietary clients to drink water, she only cited that doing so “helps you to feel full.” When, in actuality, as a DIET tool, our bodies require additional water to break down and metabolize stored fat. I just felt the BMI discussion was a bit well-worn as a topic well-discussed for over 20 years and didn’t warrant a chapter on it.Instead, a much longer and deeper discussion and overview of more fish choices would have been my preference. She does talk about a variety of fish, I just would have liked it to have been even more extensive and less about BMIs. I appreciated her citing a free downloadable PDF on sustainability guide for selecting fish and shellfish. But what about a discussion and education on how wild caught salmon, salmon being well featured through her cookbook, is so much better for women to avoid toxicities and guard against breast cancer?I loved her second chapter on the Pescatarian Kitchen and stocking it for flavor and food pairings for it. Take the time to go through preparing your kitchen for this and contemplating where and how to stock a variety of fish and seafood into your home. This may mean shopping more frequently so your fish is super fresh. Wild caught salmon is ok to freeze. But not all seafood freezes and reheats well. It can get rubbery.In order to keep the printing costs down and the price of the book affordable, this is another cookbook from the publisher without a lot of photos. It’s just because we are so used to images galore with FB, Twitter, and IG that we expect it. However, there have been plenty of phenomenal cookbooks like the Joy of Cooking and Fannie Farmer which don’t have photos and we’ve all done fine without them for years.Something we can all be appreciative of from a non-test kitchen sort of a publishing house is that with each of the recipes they cite the nutritional information, so we can all be aware of those details like fat and sodium and manage those as needed with individual health issues.I have to say the recipes I am most interested in attempting soon are all of the salmon dishes. I really appreciated how there are several salmon recipes throughout and the variety of them. I’m particularly interested in attempting the Salmon cakes with Old Bay seasoning. I’ve never heard of Old Bay seasoning, but there are recipes for it readily findable online. Just be careful of the sodium count because one of the key ingredients is celery salt.I was surprised to find a chapter on Desserts and almost skipped reading it until I read “Chocolate Hummus” and discovered that they all had a NUTRIONAL component to them like avocado or chickpeas! I am seriously interested in attempting Chocolate Hummus! We LOVE chickpeas, and prefer them pureed with something DONE to them for flavor.Introduction viiiChapter 1: The Truly Healthy Pescatarian DietChapter 2: Your Pescatarian KitchenChapter 3: Finding and Maintaining Your Naturally Healthy WeightI found it a fetching title where I hadChapter 4: Breakfasts (who knew?)OK, I could put on weight happily eating the Smoked Trout (or salmon!) and Capers Cream Cheese. But the Loaded Avocado Sweet Potato “Toast” is quite intriguing. Avocados can be unpredictable for precisely WHEN they will be ripe, but this recipe appeals to me, plus I think I can play with it to make some substitutions. The Baked Egg and Smoked Salmon Stuffed Avocado also looks great. She includes a little spice recipe for Everything-Bagel Seasoning. I LOVE Everything-Bagel, but the true bagel is purely white flour, empty carbs. Still nummy, but only sometimes. So I like how she weaves in the salty, savory, toasted seedy flavor combination I love into a low carb breakfast option. I can see I’ll be playing with this recipe, as well.Chapter 5: Soups and SaladsI like the idea of a Salmon based Cobb salad and will play with this to make it my own. The Roasted Tomato soup to my mind, and I’ve seen videos of ladies making this, too, is just a whole lottah work for… Tomato Soup. The Southwestern Butternut Squash Soup appeals to me because I do like Squash (think pumpkin’s cousins) dishes. I’d omit the chips and lean more on the quinoa for a more nutritious carb.Chapter 6: Vegetarian MainsA number of Asian inspired dishes like Tempeh Stir-Fry, Coconut Curry, and Veggie Pad Thai with Tofu and Zucchini. I don’t LOVE coconut curry so much, but Chickpeas and Sweet Potatoes in a curry dish, I could adjust this and make it fit our table. The Zucchini Lasagna is already extremely close to my Eggplant Parmesan, so I don’t know that I would really bother with what is a very slight variation. Still, the premise of the Veg-Not-Carb-Noodles mindset thinking is solid, to think to substitute eggplant thin slabs for NOODLES could inspire me more later.Her Zucchini Linguine and White Clam Sauce is very similar to my Linguine and Clam Sauce dish. Also, if you’re a fan of greens, you’re out-of-luck.This is a minor gripe, that was hopefully dealt with in the final edition, but among the ingredients for the Chickpea and Sweet Potato Curry is coconut cream without a footnote as to whether she really means coconut cream or milk and hopefully not creme de coconut, which is an ingredient in pina coladas.The seafood and fish recipes are different enough that if you’re considering becoming pescatarian you might enjoy this cookbook. However, as mentioned above, many of the fish recipes also include sweet elements: the paella has sweet plantains, honey mustard dipping sauce for the fish sticks, pineapple in the fried rice, just to mention a few.If you’re considering making the switch to a meatless diet, incorporating more fish into your diet and don’t mind sweetened dishes, you might like The Truly Healthy Pescatarian Cookbook. This would definitely make a good introduction to the pescatarian lifestyle. This is a light, dishy read. It's better than the "Andy Cohen Diaries" (which I read before this one) and Cohen is likable and funny in it. I'm a housewives fan so I enjoyed his take on the franchises. If you're not a fan...you might be bored with those sections as others have noted but it's stands up well even if you have to skip those sections. Cohen's not exactly a "deep" guy -- or perhaps he hides that side -- so don't expect much more than light, fun reading and quippy anecdotes. He's definitely most talkative and I'll bet he's been successful because people like to listen. I especially enjoyed his stories about meeting soap star Susan Lucci. I'm not a soap fan but his self-deprecating humor had me laughing out loud in more than once place.

I have been a Bravo fan for a very long time. In fact, I started watching the Real Housewive's franchise from day one of the Orange County ladies. Andy Cohen was kind of a known extra cast member of sorts, to those of us who have followed these shows. I think everyone who knows him, loves him! Honestly, Andy Cohen has a great sense of humor, and a way of saying what he thinks about these women's crazy antics without really saying it and showing his bias. In short, most fans of the network love Andy.The thing I loved about his book was the candid way he talked about his own life and his own experience growing up and coming out as a gay man. I did find it interesting that Andy seems to write of his coming out as part of his life, but not the defining feature of his life. In coming out, his family seemed to embrace him and move on with life, so the person he speaks of with greatest fear was his good friend and college roommate. I was so moved by his expression of fear and concern over telling his friend and really could start to appreciate how that must have felt for him. In the end, his roommate embraced his coming out and the two are still good friends today.There seems to be an integral connection between Andy's pop-culture obsession and his current job, all fueled by healthy doses of all that is uniquely Andy. His memoir talks about his early days on national, morning television--including stories about Oprah Winfrey, various CBS news anchors, and other celebrities that made this a real page turner. Just the stories behind the Housewives franchise (which really is a pretty small portion of the book), make it a must read for fans.I really enjoyed Andy's story. There is such a nice mix of happy and serious, to really echo what we see with the real Andy Cohen on his show. His anecdotes and memories are funny, fast-paced, and engaging. Now I will just hope that he writes another book, with more great "behind the scenes" stories for us in a few years down the road!

I happen to be a fan of Andy Cohen via the Bravo tv network. I love the shows on that network, which include the various "Real Housewives of __________" (fill in the blank), Top Chef, Flipping Out, etc. I also happen to like Mr Cohen's evening half-hour talk show that follows most weekday night programming. Because of my appreciation of the network shows and the knowledge I have of Andy Cohen as a result of his show and his various appearances he has made on other networks, I really LOVED this autobiography. It was like sitting down with a friend and enjoying his perspective/GOSSIP on the various aspects of both his career and the things currently happening behind the scenes on shows I enjoy. He has the same easy-breezy-funny manner of talking he displays on his talk show. It's a fun read. Andy Cohen is brutally honest, funny, matter-of-fact and over-the-top at the same time.I didn't give it 5 stars only because I suspect, if you are not familiar with Andy Cohen, if you don't appreciate the Bravo network and its shows, you will not enjoy the book at all. If you are a fan, you will truly enjoy this read!

Andy Cohen has become a wonderful mixture of producer, talent himself, and fun,all while retaining the same fascination and awe (in some cases) of celebrity and pop culture that makes watching WWHL a delight. That combination seems extremely rare as many celebrities these days seem so jaded and entitled. Throughout the book, the juxtapositions between his parents in St. Louis and his experiences climbing the industry ladder never stop. Not only are these fun to read, but they illustrate his love and appreciation for his parents (who seem as great & fun themselves, especially you've seen them on his show!) whose home encouraged his love of the television industry. Thank you Evelyn and Lou! Andy has managed just the perfect mix of his professional story, even managing to include some very worthwhile career lessons that are applicable anywhere, his personal life experiences (very interesting to read about his process of 'coming out' in a time before being gay was understood as part of biology, not choice, and the trials that went in hand - especially for those of us that were young during the period of uncertainty re: AIDS), and super-fan moments he unflinchingly recounts, regardless of any embarrassment, again seeming uncensored- proving he doesn't take himself so seriously. These super-fan moments happen all the way through his career, popping in at just the right moments in the book. While we're reading about the evolution of his career, it's not only fascinating itself but with said fan moments included, there is never a part of the book where I considered skipping a page or two, as other books of this nature can warrant. You never know what fascinating tidbit will pop up, which keeps readers truly involved and wanting more. Anyone who has dreamt of working in entertainment will of course love reading this (and will learn what not to do at times as well), along with (more importantly for any readers in the industry itself) what TO do. For Bravo TV fans, which I am, we do get the dish on the shows, and some very revealing stories about the personalities off-screen. Andy wrote so well that at times he only needs a few sentences to convey the essence of these "Bravolebrities", often confirming our impressions. Fear not, Housewives fans, there's a lot of entertaining behind the scenes info and stories as well that are told in full chapters.The bottom line is this really is a great book! Regardless of the initial reason of interest that compells you to read it, you'll soon be sucked in by Andy's candor and wit. As I said above, after 20 plus years in the industry, he's still not jaded and is remarkably self-depricating, which is great fun for readers.If you want to read about Andy's life, you'll soon be hooked on reading about his work and vice-versa.Bottom line (thus ending my rambling) is that this is a must-read and will draw you in quickly. I'm regretting not reading it until now and I read everyday. Big mistake on my end! Grab your copy now, grab your rations of food & drink, turn your ringer off and get comfy. You won't want any interruptions while in Andy-land!
