This is a really interesting and engaging devotional book. We are actually using this for a teen study at church, and it connects very well with the older high school teens. Great themes run throughout the book and there was a lot of attention paid to biblical ideas and how they connect to Middle Earth. Has thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter, and is a very easy read for young adults and older.

I'm not a huge fan of the daily devotional book (mostly derived from the books of C.S. Lewis), so while I may enjoy this book, particularly since someone took the time to find the best of the many lines of wisdom written by Tolkien, his work is a little ambiguous compared to someone like Lewis, who wrote straight apologetics. You can fairly easily derive the wisdom of the works of Lewis; Tolkien is a little more difficult, especially if you aren't very conversant in fantasy literature. My mom, for example, cannot, for the life of her, see the Christian themes in Tolkien's work. I've tried to explain it ro her, but she refuses to read any of Tolkien's work at length, particularly The Silmarillion (which she seems to think is heretical, even though her explanation is that she just doesn't understand how it applies to Christian theology). Still, while it's not as edifying as the Lewis books of the same kind, it can help you have a better understanding of Tolkien's beliefs.

Of all books, besides the Bible, the Lord of the Rings has had the most impact on me. This devotional really brought out many of the themes of the Bible and recast them so I could see them in a different light with the Lord of the Rings as a backdrop.

[This review comes from my 15yo]I am only a few weeks into my LOTR devotional exploration and so far it has been well worth the trip. The fact that someone would even take the time to write a devotional based on Tolkien's work(s) is what attracted me to this title. The book is set up to be studied over nine weeks; each week has two devotions that coordinate with each other (Pride vs. Humility, Corruption vs. Integrity, etc.). My favorite part of each devotion is looking up all of the scriptures relating to the topic and marking them in my KJV Bible.I congratulate Ms. Arthur for finding a good balance between her humorous and fun LOTR comments with the critical spiritual aspect of a devotional. She does an excellent job of connecting the stuff of fantasy with the stuff of life without making it seem like Tolkien had an allegory in mind when he crafted The Lord of the Rings (in fact, Arthur even affirms this in the first devotion of the book). We as Christians should not be afraid to seek learning and truth wherever it can be found, even if it comes from reading seemingly "secular" fiction. Thank you Ms. Arthur for finding some good in modern pop culture and fighting for it![...]I give "Walking with Frodo" five stars for its being a totally neat book. Arthur writes for the YA audience and really forces you to make LOTR spiritually relevant to your life. I would recommend this book for any high schooler/college kid/LOTR fan who is looking for a fresh and enlightening perspective on their favorite medieval fantasy epic.

definately designed to catch the wave of younger and/or new Tolkien fans made as a result of the movies. I admire how the writer applied the lessons from the story and compared them with Biblical truths. I will pass this on to my son.

As someone who has read 100+ personal development books, I found Jen's rendition to be much of the same advice repackaged in her voice.So the pro's of this book:I love that it's in her voice. It's engaging and I find that listening to these kind of audiobooks, even if they are repeating the same information, beneficitial.The con's of this book:Nearly nothing feels or seems remotely fresh in terms of new ways of seeing my money situation. In terms of results from this book, I didn't notice any inclination to take more action. She's also a coach, and touts the benefits of coaching in almost every chapter. I don't mind that she's selling herself in her own book... but at the same time it just made me have my hackles up most of the book because the way it was presented seemed like coaching was The Answer most of the time, instead of 'a possible answer if it makes sense to you'.There are other books I found way more useful in terms of motivation, inspiration, and lasting change. Some of them being; The Richest Man In Babylon. After years and years, I still apply what I've learned there. I know what I applied will let me comfortably retire on over a million dollars.I'm sorry to write this review in some ways, because Jen really has a great tone of voice but honestly this is what I got from this book.

I honestly do not understand the book's high rating and appeal. After reading through it near two times, afraid I perhaps missed some important details the first time through somehow, I'm pretty shocked at how well the book is performing critically.There is a large amount of enthusiasm in the book, but very little practicality behind it.One great example of this is how the book has several mini-stories about random people who "made money successfully." One of them is about a woman who needed a lot of money quick. She went into the attic and discovered a stock/bond paper or something that turns out to be worth exactly the amount of money she needed! Amazing, the moral of the story: YOU CAN MAKE MONEY LIKE THIS TOO!See the problem? The book is littered with stuff like this, over and over.The author spends a large amount of time writing how she had to come up with a large amount of money for some seminars on how to make money. Something like $80,000 for a seminar. Which she ends up borrowing from someone. By the end, I'm more confused than when I started. Was the lesson to not be afraid to ask people for money? Were there tips on how to ask people for money? Was it a recommendation to not be afraid to spend large amounts of money that isn't yours on seminars? That's nearly 1/2 a year's salary for someone with a technical job like myself, well above the average person. No one in the right mind set should follow that advice. Never put yourself in crippling debt, with a friend or family member no less, for something like a ~seminar~.What exactly the author benefited out of that kind of money being spent on a ~seminar~ was totally lost on me. More so on the second time I read those parts.Who is this book for?I guess it's for people who think their money problems go away by spending more money than they have on seminars and feel-better-about-yourself guides.What does this book do?I guess at the end of it, you get you into the mind set that you could get away with robbery for silly reasons (like asking your friend/family for a stupid amount of money on loan). I'm guessing that is the point of the title.What does this book not do?Not a drop of practical advice on making money and actually being badass at making money. Just makes you think it, somehow?

This book was terrible and a waste of my time. I liked Jen's last book, but this book was just like it. 1. You are a badass 2. Think positive 3. The universe blah blah blah. Please do not waste your money.

I would have been $9.99 richer if I hadn't spent money on this book. It's basically a pep talk with no actual advice, just the same basic mantra of "believe you'll make money and you will" repeated over and over and over.It took me so long to get through the first 70% of the book, thinking "surely it will get better eventually" without it ever getting better that I was past the seven day return policy for a Kindle book.

This book is about changing your mindset. It isn't revolutionary. The overuse of "etc." is annoying in the audio book.

Not realistic at all. I like her enthusiasm and all, but it's the same words over and over with some "I spent $80,000 on seminars" thrown in. Who has $80,000 laying around to teach them how to make more money? Normal people just don't. I have a hard time with her whole "I was 40 and totally broke" thing to spending that much on self help seminars. She got lucky, plain and simple.

As a followup to Jen Sincero's "You are a Badass," she dives further into the concept of generating more money by bringing us "You are a Badass at Making Money." This is the book I started 2018 reading. What I learned from this book is exactly what I'm seeing repeated in every book I've read about creating wealth and abundance. It's all about changing your mindset and tapping into that wealth. Wealth is already available to each of us. We just have to learn how to access it. A lot of this has to do with facing our fears and taking a good hard look at how we view money. For many people, we look at money negatively. We don't see money as a means to an end. When we receive money, we are happy. When it is taken away from us, we are sad. When we don't have any money, we are scared, fearful, and missing it like an ex-lover that has left us. Yet, money gets a bad rap. People claim it is the root of all evil, when in fact it is not money that is evil. Money is a medium. It is what we decide to do with money that determines whether the use of money is good or evil. In other words, it is the person using the money that is innately good or evil. We are the ones who decide that, not money.By dealing with how we view and treat money, this book is designed to help us get to the root of why we are in the predicament we are in when it comes to money. It is up to us to deal with and change how we view money, especially if we want an abundance, rather than a lack of it.

The map is small, durable, and convenient to carry around. It has pretty good details and has a lot of the more popular sites marked on the map, however, it only gives a general area of sites and there are no street names on the map to help with exact location. There is also a small map of the Tokyo Subway, but I believe it is only of the subway and not helpful for the JR train stations which we used the most. I bought a couple maps for my trip and out of all of them this one was really the only one that was helpful, but at my own expense I used Google Maps at lot more frequently. I would still recommend this map to anyone looking to visit Tokyo

The maps are decent, but the transit map has some smaller stops left off. I relied on my phone GPS more than this map when I was in Tokyo. I've used other PopOut maps that have been perfect, but I guess Tokyo is a little more complicated than the other cities I have been in.

Great map to keep in your pocket or bag while traveling to Tokyo. Great maps for the rail system too.

About the Author

Princess Farhana has performed, taught and written about Oriental Dance since 1990. One of the most well known best-loved belly dancers in the world, she has appeared in Egypt, China, across Europe and The United Kingdom, as well as throughout North America. An artistic chameleon and a fusion pioneer, she performs many styles of dance with ease, from traditional to contemporary. Princess Farhana was trained in the Egyptian style of belly dance by Zahra Zuhair of Los Angeles and Raqia Hassan of Cairo, among many others. The Princess is also well known as a theatrical belly dance fusion performer, conceiving and executing fantasy tableaux and dramatically recreating vintage styles of Oriental Dance from the Edwardian era to the 1970’s. A perpetual student, she is fascinated with anything related to Oriental dance, and has done extensive research on its history, traditions, and myriad forms. Princess Farhana has danced and acted in numerous motion pictures, in music videos and on television. She has appeared in many documentaries on Oriental Dance, performing and as an interview subject. In 2009, she was the star of Steve Balderson’s film “Underbelly: A Year In The Life Of Princess Farhana” which was released worldwide in theaters as well as on DVD. Prior to her dance career, she was a musician,author and and professional journalist using her given name Pleasant Gehman. She made multiple recordings and toured extensively with her bands, and has authored literally thousands of articles for national, international and internet publications. Her memoirs, creative writing and poetry have been widely anthologized and many works were recorded on her spoken word CD Ruined. “The Belly Dance Handbook” is based on articles she has written for belly dance publications and for her popular blog, “Missives From The Royal Palace”, which has been online since 2009. From reading all of the 5-star reviews, I had much higher expectations for the book. The chapters on history of the dance and descriptions of different styles rely heavily on personal experience and word of mouth with no legitimate sources cited.... The whole book is like that with a self-centered, personal writing style geared towards a layperson. Overall, the book is very basic and over-generalized with little depth or concrete information. The ideas presented are not well researched and not well-thought out. If you're interested in learning what Princess Farhana personally thinks about bellydance and interested in a some general tips about getting started in performing as a bellydancer, then you might find this book useful. I appreciate the effort and intention Princess Farhana put into creating it, but as a more experienced dancer who already knows quite a bit about bellydance I personally didn't find it very useful.

I really enjoyed all of the history given in the first sections of this book. I had never heard of American Belly Dance prior to this year, Classical Egyptian, and Folkloric dances are all I have seen. I am very happy that Princess Farhana gives examples or popular artists for each style of dance she explains in the book. The advice is so valuable. She answered questions I have had for a long time. I appreciate that very much. All dancers would like the information shared in this book. It is full of grace, kindness, and it makes me happy that I get to jump into bed and read it every night.

THIS BOOK RAQS!!! If only it had existed 15 years ago. The Princess addresses, breaks down and explains so many important things that I think it is a MUST HAVE for any professional dancer, Belly dance instructor or aspiring performer. I recommend it to all of my students and have added it to my required reading for my teacher training! Princess Farhana shares all of the tidbits, tricks and behind the scenes info you need. She is an engaging and honest writer who keeps you interested while sharing valuable information.READ IT!!

Where was this book when I was a baby bellydancer!?!???? Seriously, order this book. You need this book. No matter your level of skill or whether you want to be a pro or not. I have read it cover to cover and give it two thumbs up. Very helpful tips on all kinds of important things like professionalism at gigs, makeup, choosing the right bellydance teacher, etc. You won't be sorry and it will save you from "finding out the hard way".

I've been teaching belly dance for two decades and love this book. I have recommended it to my students and colleagues. Fun and easy to reference and read. Arrived on time and in great condition.

Princess Farhana has written a wonderful book that looks at the art of Belly dance from every angle- No matter where you are in your dance journey you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy.

The title of this book is very relevant to the content. It is the only bellydance book I own for which I go back to and read, and get a new perspective as I grow as a dancer. The book helped me set goals for myself and made me believe I could achieve them. It gave sensible advice that I use!
