okay book; arrived on time

great book

This book is a good introductory to nootropics (smart drugs), however, I found it a bit dated (maybe there's an updated release??). Also, I've found just a much information freely on-line via nootropic forums.

Pros: the book does contain some useful information.Cons: authors are dishonest. They intentionally hide some of the side effects of the drugs.Examples: fipexide has been linked to liver damage - the book says nothing, piracetam does have withdrawal symptoms - the book says the opposite, caffeine improves short term memory - the books says that there were "studies" that showed the opposite. I see the message: buy our "safe" drugs and stop drinking "very dangerous" coffee.BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING IN THIS BOOK, THOROUGHLY RESEARCH THE DRUG ON YOUR OWN.No wonder Ward Dean is now spending 7 year jail term for taxes evasion.

This was a Truely great book of its time.

When the original Smart Drugs book came out, I started on Piracetam, Hydergine, and Lucidril. With absolutely remarkable results. I was no dullard beforehand, but after a few months on that combination, I was able to enhance my problem solving ability and overall intelligence considerably. Unfortunately I now have a fairly rare disease, Porphyria, so can now longer take most of the nootropics. And I can really tell the difference.I also had some interaction with Dean, Fowkes, and Morganthaler back in that era and subscribed to the CERI newsletter. I can tell you from personal experience, they are terrific. They were so helpful and kind. The fact that Ward Dean is in prison in my mind says nothing about him being "dishonest' as a previous reviewer points out, but to the fact that our government picks certain individuals who have counter ideas to the establishment and choose to persecute them. Let's not be naive, folks.........

the author blends the spirituality of the 12 steps of AA with words from the Torah and the Talmud. They are interchangeable.The book speaks to those who think that the "big book" of AA is Christian faith based, and clearly shows that it is about any faith. The steps are the steps. The commentary to help illustrate the meaning of the 12 steps can come from anywhere. Those of us who suffer from addiction, can find a Higher Power from anywhere, if we are willing to accept our powerlessness, and turn our lives over to that God of our understanding.

Ths is a wonderful take on the 12 Steps.

A close friend has betrayed the heroes of the Marvel Universe and assembled the Infinity Stones for their own ends. In a universe changed, the only one who can stand against this new threat is... Loki? I dare not say more in case I spoil any of this story that has to be read to be truly appreciated. I will warn you though, read every bit of dialogue and look over every panel carefully. This is a massive story and I personally ended up having to go back a few times because I missed important details the first time. This whole event is a loving throwback to the cosmic craziness of Jim Starlin's original Infinity Trilogy that started in Infinity Guantlet (1992). Duggan channels Starlin's style here without flat out copying it. A lot of the story's good comes from the build-up. From Guardians, to Infinity Countdown, to here has been an incredible ride using the best of both past and present Marvel Cosmic stories. It's not over either, as not only do we get a couple of extra one-shots in the collection meant to bookend the event, they tease what's next for Duggan. His upcoming Infinity Watch: Wolverine (2019) miniseries will continue his story of the Infinity Stones. In addition, the art on the book is some of Marvel's best. It's done by legendary Mike Deadato Jr. for the main event, a master of his field. His gritty yet realistic style really sets the tone. Beyond him Mark Bagley and Andy MacDonald do good on the additional content. As the end of a long saga I will say this doesn't really work as more has been confirmed inside to be coming. This makes me happy though, as I'm not ready for this story to end just yet.5/5

Anyone who has a strong interest in lighthouses will be happy with the beautiful photos in this calendar! My husband requested it as a Christmas gift and is enjoying browsing through it. Don't let the multilingual discourage a purchase--it simply means that the days of the week, months of the year are in other languages as well, which we consider a plus!

I really like this calendar for four reasons.1. The week starts on Sunday. (All other calendars I looked at this year started the week on Monday, which I don't like).2. I like that it has the moon phases on it3. I like that it has holidays listed.4. The pictures are cool and the information about each lighthouse is interesting.

As a first-time buyer, I love the variety of lighthouses and the varied viewpoints within the art depicting them. Easy to feel like I am there. Also like that the weekly layout flows from Sunday to Saturday so it is in sync with my wall calendars. Plenty of space for notes and nice group of reference pages.

We get this calendar every year. Like the week by week format plus the pages in the back to note things for the following year prior to the new calendar coming out. Enjoy the lighthouse pictures as well.

We had just visited Maine & saw some lighthouses. This has lighthouses from around the world. Beautiful photographs. Journal style with plenty of room to write appointments & reminders.

Calendar is fine for my everday notes, appointments, weather. Does not take alot of spaceWould prefer min schnauzer, but cannot find anymore.

I am not usually one for non-fiction but The Class was (if I may coin a word) unputdownable. The book tells the story of one year in a high school science class in Greenwich, Connecticut, and while that may seem like a dry subject, it was anything but. The author had an incredible ability to get you invested in the characters, who, in addition to being ambitious and driven budding scientists, are also teenage kids navigating social pressures, annoying parents, college applications, and all the other teenage experiences we all remember. The real genius of the book is that, because of the way that the characters are developed and you get to know them outside of the classroom, you actually end up deeply invested in the outcomes of their science projects too! And in framing the book around the "science fair circuit"--a series of high-stakes competitions that take place around the end of the school year--the author has managed to infuse the story with a compelling narrative arc, a brisk pace, and a satisfying coda. On top of that, she writes beautifully and the book is full of vivid descriptive passages that are still stuck in my head months after reading it. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

This is a wonderfully written book about an amazing teacher, ruined by extraneous snarky remarks against President Trump and the First Lady. These comments smack of coastal elitism and are served up without any context relating to the story being told.Authors need to understand that not all readers suffer from TDS. (trump derangement syndrome)

Great book on classrooms and impact of teachers - shows the power of legacy for getting into the Ivys.

In a troubled world it’s great to read about individuals who make a difference. Great teachers are under-appreciated. Andrew Bramante is a special influence professionally and personally. I’m lucky to know his family and admire their dedication to balancing education and family. These are remarkable kids Andy worked with and they all deserve recognition.

I read the book, it’s the best book I’ve never read before , anyway it’s the best book

I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it is an excellent introduction to great teaching. In our modern educational debate, people suggest a number of things they hope will fix the problems in our education system: more funding, better teacher training, vouchers, more funding for charters, better accountability, common core, improved regulations, etc. None of these actually help students very much. The one thing that nearly always helps students--immediately and in a way that last--is better teaching. The Class does an excellent job of showing how great teaching works and how it can make a significant difference. Very worth reading.On the other hand, the system in which the book takes place is very disappointing. The focus of the students, and usually the teachers, in this book so often centers on winning contests, beating the competition posed by other students, impressing universities, and trying to win more contests. Most of the time, when a contest is mentioned, the amount of money the student can win is immediately listed. In this version of education, contests and winning money are the center of the whole educational experience. And parents are just as focused on this as students and most teachers. A love of learning, the joy of knowledge, ideas, gaining wisdom, trying to learn about the most important things in history and life--these are hardly mentioned. As if they aren't even a part of learning. Disappointing.If this really is the modern schooling system, and if this is what school is like for the "best of the best" in America's award-winning schools and classrooms, our nation is in trouble. Almost nothing about great learning or great ideas. It's all winning awards and trying to impress others. Mostly devoid of entrepreneurship, innovation, or leadership education. The focus is conveyor belt, factory-style schools. And ribbons. Learning isn't the point; just checking off bureaucratic boxes, winning awards, and trying to out-impress "the other drones". Sorry to say it so bluntly, and maybe the students covered in the stories don't experience it this way (I hope not), but this is how it felt reading the book. Sad.Of course, someone is going to say: "That's reality. That's just the way education is today. Get real." I know this is true in many, perhaps most, schools. But that's even more sad. I think the role of great teachers should be to help students see past the conveyor-belt drive to win awards and to discover the greatness of loving to learn. Maybe that's too idealistic. But still: Carpe Diem. I think, reading between the lines, that this is the kind of teacher Andy (the main character in the book) is in real life. That's why he's had such success, I bet. I just wish the story would have showed more of this. Still, it's a great read. Anyone interested in education will find this a valuable resource.
